Have A Great Holiday This Year

Kemer

Holiday time is coming up and money is short, but you can do something about that. I have given some tips on how you can save money and make your holiday this year as good as any other year before the recession.

There is still a while to go before summer arrives and plenty of time to plan your budget. Try to make sure that you don't skimp on a holiday that you pick because it is cheap the chances are you won't enjoy it.

There are great bargains to be had during the off-season. If you can holiday when others can't, you'll find a cheaper fare. Tourist site entry fees may be discounted and queues will be shorter.

What will you use abroad? Cash, debit cards, credit cards, prepaid cards or travellers? Look for a debit card that doesn't charge you currency conversion fees or a foreign ATM fee - The Nationwide is a good example.

Shop around for the best money conversion rates online, moneysupermaket.com and moneysavingexpert.com are pretty good.

Try saving money at home and put the savings away towards your holiday.
  • Turn your central heating thermostat down. Reducing the temperature by 1°C could cut your heating bills by up to 10%.
  • Your water temperature should be set to 60°C or lower.
  • Turn off the lights when you leave a room
  • Don't leave electrical appliances on standby.
  • Use energy-saving light bulbs everywhere in and outside the home.
  • Make meals from leftovers from dinner for lunch the next day.

If you are a student make sure you get an international student card before you go.

Learn a bit of the language before you go, it will reward you with cheaper goods, as you will be able to barter more effectively.

Sell unwanted stuff on Ebay you'll have made some extra spending money.

All these tips will make a big difference to your holiday this year.
